Knight Frank returns to Tasmania
Knight Frank is back operating in Tasmania, re-establishing a presence via the opening of two dual-branded offices in partnership with McGrath.
The two dual-branded offices are located in Hobart and Launceston. A new McGrath Knight Frank office has opened in Hobart, while an existing successful McGrath office in Launceston has rebranded under the McGrath Knight Frank banner.
The Tasmanian offices are headed up by existing McGrath franchisee Josh Hart, who has 18 years’ experience in Tasmania’s real estate market, including more than four as the Principal of McGrath Launceston.
Mr Hart has achieved more than $1 billion in sales over his career in Tasmania. In 2026 he won an internal award at McGrath for transacting the highest number of sales across the brand’s network over the financial year. Meanwhile, in 2024 he dominated the REIT awards, being named Residential Salesperson of the Year for Tasmania, with the McGrath Launceston office also receiving the awards of Sales Agency of the Year and Sales Team of the Year.
The two new Tasmanian McGrath Knight Frank offices will take the number of dual-branded offices for the two brands to seven.
In addition to offering both residential and commercial sales, they will also provide property management services, as well as commercial valuations and concierge services.
Mr Hart said he was excited to be amalgamating the McGrath and Knight Frank brands in Tasmania.
“There is a lot of confidence in both brands in Tasmania, and we are really excited to be bringing the Knight Frank brand, which is well known for its history and success, back to the state, as well as expanding the McGrath presence,” he said.
“Our dual branded offices in Tasmania will bring enormous value to the local community and clients, with the ability to leverage networks and expertise right around Australia, as well as internationally.
“There is no other brand in the market that offers the reach that our McGrath Knight Frank offices will have.
“We are excited to have recently strengthened our residential team with the appointment of Paul Reed as a lead agent in our Hobart office and we have imminent plans for further growth across the residential and commercial teams in both our Hobart and Launceston offices, with an active recruitment campaign underway.
“The appetite for both residential and commercial property in Tasmania is huge, but with limited supply and property being tightly held, we are seeing strong growth.”
Knight Frank Chief Executive Officer James Patterson said he was very excited for Knight Frank to be re-establishing a presence in Tasmania following the sale of its franchise in 2024.
“Knight Frank has a strong brand and long history in Tasmania, with a franchise that operated for 27 years, and we have been committed to returning to the state once again,” he said.
“We do currently have two teams in Asset Management Services based in Hobart and Launceston managing 10 shopping centres for Region Group, which marked the start of a new phase for Knight Frank in Tasmania at the end of 2024, and we also have a valuations team operating in the state.
“But I’m thrilled to be announcing that we will now again offer the full suite of property services in Tasmania via an office in collaboration with our valued partner McGrath.
“We are excited to have a presence in the state again, and we look forward to providing the best service to our clients.”
McGrath Chief Executive Officer John McGrath said Tasmania’s residential property market had demonstrated resilience in the face of a slowing sector nationally, demonstrating that there was a great opportunity for growth in the state.
“Tasmania’s property market has evolved significantly in recent years, fuelled by interstate migration, lifestyle shifts and improving infrastructure, with tens of billions of dollars in projects in the pipeline, including a $200 million terminal expansion development at Hobart Airport due for completion in 2028,” he said.
"The sophisticated market trends now evident in Hobart and Launceston, alongside strong tourism growth, underscore a renewed, broader confidence in the Tasmanian economy.
“Clients in the state deserve and expect a world-class real estate service offering that pairs deep market knowledge with national and international reach, and that’s precisely what the McGrath Knight Frank partnership is committed to delivering.”
The McGrath Knight Frank office in Hobart will be located in a refurbished historic building at 147 Sandy Bay Road, Sandy Bay and in Launceston, it is located at 83 Frankland Street.
