ALEXANDRIA
Why live in ALEXANDRIA?
History
This inner city suburb dates back to 1868 and was originally a residential area, taking its name from Princess Alexandria, the wife of King Edward VII. However, by the early 20th century, because of its proximity to the rail yards and brick works, it had changed into a strongly industrial area, with only a few residential enclaves remaining.

It wasn’t until the 1990’s that Alexandria again changed. Large industrial sites have been repatriated and redeveloped for inner city living. The original houses have been renovated, and the grime of its industrial past has been scrubbed away.
