Of all the stories about how suburbs acquired their names, Hornsby’s is one of the best. The suburb owes its existence - or at least its name - to a Constable Horne. In 1838 he was one of the men responsible for the capture of the notorious bushranger John MacMamara. As a reward he received a substantial land grant.
