In 2007, McGrath joined with Apple to develop Australia's first search criteria-based real estate podcast, allowing buyers to request properties based on their specific requirements to be sent to the buyer's video iPod.
The expansion of McGrath Estate Agents and its dominance in the Sydney property scene has been the result of years of dedication and determination. Starting up John McGrath Real Estate in 1987, John chased his dream of owning his own business and creating his own path. In 1988, McGrath Goodhope commenced business from a small office in Jersey Road, Woollahra, with a staff of 10. Within two years, the offices were relocated around the corner to Moncur Street.
1989 saw John McGrath sell Australia's highest price residential home at the time for $11.25m at 9 Wolseley Crescent, Point Piper, to overseas buyers through an international marketing campaign. The sale served as the catalyst for McGrath Goodhope to expand beyond the terrace house and forge ahead into new areas throughout the eastern suburbs.

The Company's annual residential sales turnover was for FY12 was $5.9 billion from 6,616 sales, with 1,787 properties selling over the $1 million mark. This was up from $3.25 billion in FY09.
The expansion and success of McGrath Estate Agents has been twice recognised by respected business publication BRW in 1999 and 2000. McGrath became the first and only real estate company to be included in the prestigious BRW List of the 100 Fastest-Growing Private Companies, with an overall ranking of No. 40 in 2000, after its debut on the list at No. 62 in 1999. On November 7, 2002; McGrath became a four-time recipient of another BRW List , Fast 100, clocking in at No. 73 in 2003.
In 2006, the company continued to excel with further recognition. In September, its Chief Auctioneer Scott Kennedy-Green won the 2006 Australasian Real Estate Institutes Auctioneering Championship. In October 2006, the company won the Prime Minister's Award for Excellence in Business Community Partnerships in the medium-business category for their philanthropic contribution to Father Chris Riley's Youth Off The Streets. Two months prior, the partnership won the NSW state award.
The Real Estate Institute of NSW also bestowed the honour of Best Corporate Website at its awards for 2006, applauding the company for its innovative "lifestyle" property search feature, a key component of its interactive mcgrath.com.au website.

At the 2007 Mortgage and Finance Association of Australia's National Excellence Awards, Oxygen Home Loans was named Best Mortgage and Broking Business (2 to 5 writers) and Oxygen's Peter Ellis was awarded Mortgage Broker of the Year. In 2011 Oxygen was named Australian Brokerage of the year at the 10th Annual Mortgage Awards.
In March 2007 the Real Estate Institute of Australia awarded McGrath with three national honours – The Communications Award, recognising best practice in business and marketing communications; Scott Kennedy-Green for Best Auctioneer and Peter Chauncy, for Sales Achievement in residential sales.
In October 2007, the company was a 3-time winner at the Real Estate Institute of NSW awards for Auction Marketing, Residential Sales Achievement, and the prestigious John Greig OAM Community Service Award going to James Dack. James was honoured for his outstanding work with the less fortunate in the Woolloomooloo community.
In 2008, John McGrath was honoured by the Real Estate Institute of NSW with the Woodrow Weight OBE Award, a lifetime achievement award for his outstanding contribution to the real estate industry.
